The South Yorkshire Police Band has announced the appointment of Jack Capstaff as its new Musical Director.

Originally from York, Jack is soon to graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with a degree in Composition and Conducting — the latest milepost in an emerging career which has seen him direct a number of orchestras, ensembles and bands, including Foresters Brass in Lincolnshire and the Shepherd Group Band in York.

As a talented cornet player he has also performed with the likes of Yorkshire Imps and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery.

Jumped at the chance

Jack admitted that when he heard the band was looking for a new person to lead them, he jumped at the chance.
