Bands are being advised that there are only a few places left to be filled for the 2017 Welsh Open Championship which takes place in Porthcawl on Saturday 18th February.

Domestic start

The contest at the seaside town's famous Grand Pavilion has grown in popularity since its inception in 1998, and attracts a packed audience to what is regarded as the start of the domestic contest season in Wales.

The 2017 event will be adjudicated by the vastly experienced Melvin White, who has enjoyed a successful musical link to banding in south Wales over many years.

Last year a record field of 14 bands from both sides of the River Severn battled it out for the magnificent CISWO Challenge Trophy and £1,000 first prize, with Filton Concert Brass becoming the first English band to carry off the honours (above)
