Having recently left his role at Smithills School, Chris Wormald has flown to the USA to conduct and perform at the week-long Moravian Wind & Brass Festival, held every four years in Winston, North Carolina.

Concerts

In addition to working with large brass ensembles and performing himself, Chris will conduct two full rehearsals every day of the 52-strong Symphonic Wind Band. Repertoire will include works by William Himes, James Curnow and the 'Gallimaufry Suite' by the late Guy Wolfenden.

The week will culminate in a formal, evening concert as well as a more informal concert before Chris flies back home.

All in place

Chris told 4BR: "Back in 2014 I was conducting Smithills Senior Brass Band on one of American tours when the festival organisers were at one of our concerts.

I was approached about conducting the 2017 Festival Band, since when visas, paperwork and all logistics were put in place to make everything come together."
