Complete student satisfaction at Salford

The Musical Arts Programme at the University of Salford has gained a 100% satisfaction rating from the influential National Student Survey.

Salford
The University of Salford's Musical Arts Programme has gained an unprecedented set of satisfaction results.

The Musical Arts Programme at the University of Salford is celebrating a perfect 100% pass rate in this year's National Student Survey (NSS).

The NSS gives mainly final-year undergraduates the opportunity to give a forthright opinion about the experience of their chosen course.

The anonymous responses help give prospective students a broad picture of what is good and not so good about higher education institutions and particular courses they may be interested in studying.

Absolutely delighted

A spokesperson for the Musical Arts Programme, which gained a 11% increase in its satisfaction rating told 4BR: "We are absolutely delighted at this unprecedented set of results, in a revised programme that took its current form five years ago.

Our excellent new facilities have of course made a big difference, but it's our outstanding team of sector leading tutors that has made a massive impact."

Supportive ethos

They added: "Tom Davoren, Jim Fieldhouse, Richard Marshall, Gary Curtin, Ben Richeton, Mark Langdon, Helen Varley, Brett Baker, Les Niesh and Fiona Slominska have enhanced an already impressive list of specialists, making a significant difference and developing a supportive community ethos on the programme.

Combined with lecturers such as Robin Dewhurst, Nicola Spelman and Alan Williams, it has led to this remarkable result in such an influential survey."

Overall exam results

Meanwhile, overall results for composers, performers and conductors at Salford are also on the rise, with the complete graduating body of Musical Arts students achieving a 2:1 or above for their degree classification.

The spokesperson added: "Salford is looking forward to an exciting 2017/8 with players from leading brass bands such as Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke and Foden's starting undergraduate or postgraduate courses in September."

Limited spaces

It was confirmed that there are now very limited undergraduate places available through clearing, with an emphasis on those who play euphonium, saxophone and clarinet.
