The defending Butlins Mineworkers Champion Virtuosi GUS head for Skegness next weekend boosted by a number of recent signings.

Joining on percussion are Dean Rogers and Simon Ariola, who made their debuts at the Brass in Concert Championships last November. Both are in their first year studying percussion at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Meanwhile, Jen McCausland (above) has joined on solo EEb tuba from Ratby Band. The former Reg Vardy player will make her debut at Butlins.

Busy 2018

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to have two extremely talented percussionists join us and further enhance the link with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, which will see the band perform in concert there in February.

We also feel very fortunate to have secured the services of such a committed local player in Jen for what promises to be a busy 2018. Our sincere thanks go to Tony Whittingham who filled the seat with distinction over the last two years."
