The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama is hosting the free Junior Brass Band Workshop

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is ensuring that the next generation of young brass and percussion players can have a first taste of what an exciting musical student life can be like in the heart of Cardiff, as it hosts a Junior Brass Band Workshop next month.

Free event

The free event will be led by Dr Robert Childs and is open to school-age brass players of Grade 5 standard and above who will be able to work on pieces such as 'Star Wars' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' on Saturday 10th February, culminating in an informal lunch time concert.

Informal and fun

Dr Childs told 4BR: "We want to give youngsters a taste of student life and what the college has to offer them. It will be very informal and plenty of fun with music that will encourage working together and learning quickly.

We would like to pack out the morning and then round things off in style, so if anyone is interested they should just get in touch."
