York
The Yorkshire Youth Band has been putting the final touches in place

The talented youngsters of the Yorkshire Youth Band enjoyed their last gathering before their forthcoming performance at the Black Dyke Brass Festival on 3rd June at Leeds Town Hall.

Led by Black Dyke Band Director of Music, Prof Nicholas Childs, and helped by the continued support of Besson Musical Instruments, the course was conducted by Brett Baker and Richard Marshall.

Worked so hard

Brett told 4BR: "The youngsters have worked so hard for what promises to be such an exciting performance opportunity. I'm very proud of their progress and I'm looking forward to hearing them perform at Leeds Town Hall."

Richard added: "The players have really moved up a gear and the band is sounding really good. They have worked very hard over the last two courses so they will be in top form for their performance."

The band will perform Alan Fernie's 'Starlight', Philip Harper's 'Olympus', as well 'Mack the Knife', 'Them Basses' and 'Pines of Rome', for massed band items with Black Dyke, with Prof Childs telling 4BR: "This is going to be a wonderful platform to showcase their fantastic talents with Black Dyke and over 200 musicians from Armthorpe Elmfield, BD1, Delph, Friezland and Royal Buckley Bands."

New members

The latest gathering also saw nine new members join the band, with Course Administrator Alison Childs adding: "We've been delighted to welcome the new players — all a huge credit to their bands.

Just to see them flourish in a supportive atmosphere continues to show that the Yorkshire Youth Band goes from strength to strength."
