Surtaal Suite No. 1 will be written by composer Liz Lane

The Lydbrook Band has been awarded their third grant from Arts Council England's 'Grants for the Arts' scheme to enable them to host another successful 'Proms in the Park' music event.

In collaboration with the band's sponsors, Forest of Dean Stone Firms Ltd, it will be held in the grounds of the Speech House Hotel in the heart of the Forest of Dean on 30th June.

Proactive approach

Lydbrook's proactive approach in reaching out to new audiences will see them appear with the Monmouth & Chepstow Rock Choir, the Pandemonium Steel Pan Band, RSVP Bhangra from Bristol and the ABBA Tribute Band 'Revival'.

Innovative new music has also been commissioned for the event from composer-in-residence, Liz Lane, who has co-written with RSVP Bhangra 'Surtaal Suite No. 1', part of a proposed 'Surtaal Symphony' for brass band and Indian Bhangra band which will interweave Western and Punjabi musical traditions in an exciting cross-cultural musical collaboration.

Directed by Ian Holmes, the premiere is partially funded by a grant from Brass Bands England and the Norman Jones Trust Fund.

Crowd rocking

Having appeared at the famous Glastonbury Festival on numerous occasions, RSVP Bhangra will also be showcased, whilst ABBA fans will be delighted to welcome the award winning ABBA Revival to get the crowd rocking.

Not to be left out, Lydbrook will round off the evening, compered by Philip Harper, with classic Proms music including guest soloist Glyn Williams and soprano vocalist Emma Dawson, whilst the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War will also be marked.
