British Open contenders Aldbourne have announced that Cory euphonium star Glyn Williams has accepted the position of Musical Director.

He will work alongside another high profile euphonium virtuoso Dr David Thornton who has been taking the band on the contest stage.

Excited

Band Chairman Ian Keene told 4BR: "We're understandably excited that we will be working with these two internationally renowned musicians who bring their huge experience with the world's leading brass bands to lead our musical development."

Glyn has been working with Aldbourne over the past six months with the Sterling Artist taking rehearsals prior to their West of England Area appearance in March and in the lead up to their successful Grand Shield qualification.

Commitment

He told 4BR: "The band has shown a very high level of dedication and commitment which has paid off on the performance platform.

Coupled with their talents and a real team ethic, I'm looking forward to what promises to be a bright and fruitful future."

Meanwhile, the band confirmed that Dr David Thornton, who led them on their Grand Shield qualification, will lead the West of England outfit at the British Open in September.

Challenge

He added: "I'm delighted to have the opportunity to again work with Aldbourne. They are a committed ensemble and their dedication to preparation was shown at the Spring Festival.

The British Open will be a challenge, but they are already working hard and I know we will all be in high spirits for the trip to Birmingham".

Known as the 'Dabchicks', Aldbourne Band was established in 1860 and is based in a picturesque Wiltshire village located between Swindon, Marlborough and Hungerford.
