A contest draw with a difference...

Prof Nicholas Childs and four star tutors on the recent IBBSS course make the draw for the 2018 Brass Showcase event in Johnstone

Draw
The draw was made with the best high tech equipment 4BR could come up with

4BR caught up with Prof Nicholas Childs and four of the leading tutors at this year's International Brass Band Summer School in Swansea for a contest draw with a difference.

During the half time break at the end of course concert, the Black Dyke Director of Music talked about the success of the event before helping with the daw for the 2018 Brass Showcase event to be held at Johnstone Town Hall on Sunday August 26th.

Four bands

Taking part in the event (which starts at 2.30pm) will be Johnstone Sliver, Coalburn Silver, Dunaskin Doon, and Newmilns & Galston Band who will each showcase their best entertainment concert programmes.

It promises to be a great family event and builds on the success of the initiative started last year.

Come along

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The event was first run in 2017 and each of the bands is looking forward to presenting their best concert programme.

The bands will receive feedback from a judging panel, and from the audience, so please come along and enjoy this innovative event taking place at Johnstone Town Hall. Entry will be £5 and free to under 16s, with first band on at 2:30pm"

In best FIFA fashion 4BR had splashed out on a high tech fail safe draw method (a black bag and the plastic containers from inside a Kinder Egg) for the star tutors Gary Curtin, Daniel Thomas, Richard Marshall and Tom Hutchinson to make the draw4BR
