Extra treat for Brassed Off fans on British Open weekend

The special Friday night screening of the multi-award winning film at Symphony Hall will be preceded by a 'Q&A' session with one of its stars.

There will be an extra treat in store for Grimethorpe 'Brassed Off!' fans next weekend when the band takes to the stage of Symphony Hall on Friday evening (7th September) for their live accompaniment to a special screening of the multi-award winning film.

Actor Philip Jackson who played the lugubrious tuba player Jim, will be featured in a special pre-show 'Q & A' session before the band takes to the stage.

Looking forward

One of Britain's best known character actors, Jim recently played Chief Inspector Japp in the popular television detective series 'Poirot' alongside David Suchet, and he told 4BR: "Really looking forward to seeing everyone at Birmingham's Symphony Hall on Friday night. As Jim would say: 'I hope you've budgeted for booze!'"

For the special 'Brassed Off Live' production, members of the current Grimethorpe Band will be joined by a number of players who performed in the film, while the film's incidental and mood music will be performed by members of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

Awards

The bittersweet comedy was nominated for three BAFTAs, as well as going on to win nine international film awards, including a prestigious César award in France for 'Best Foreign Film'.

It regularly features in lists of the best British films ever made, including the BFI's definitive top 100.

Really looking forward to seeing everyone at Birmingham's Symphony Hall on Friday night. As Jim would say: 'I hope you've budgeted for booze!'Actor, Philip Jackson
