Alan will be on his bike throughout October to reach his goal

Former Scottish Brass Band Association Development Officer Alan Edmond is taking to the saddle once more to raise funds for the battle against childhood cancer.

Alan will be taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge, and has already notched up a few kilometers in his efforts to reach his goal of 300 kilometers by the end of the month.

All funds raised will support the Children's Medical Research Institute in Sydney continue their work to develop innovative treatments and find a cure.

Back in lycra

Alan told 4BR: "After two years out of the saddle and now carrying a little more midriff than I should, I thought it was time to do something about it and support a wonderful cause in the process.

I hope people will also show their support — I can guarantee that I will push myself to the limit in my lycra, and I know the charity and I will be forever grateful for helping kick cancer's butt for these poor kids. At present three children a week die of the disease in Australia."
