Awards and more awards for Coalburn

There were awards presented to Coalburn Band before and after the recent Scottish Championships in Perth.

Coalkburn
The awards night was another great celebration for the ambitious organisation.

Just ahead of their successful appearance at the Scottish Championships last weekend, where the senior Coalburn Band qualified for the Second Section National Final, the organisation itself enjoyed a 10th anniversary celebration.

The Coalburn Bronze, Intermediate, Silver and Percussion Academy gathered for a wonderful home cooked dinner, prepared by committee member Helen Damer to hand out well deserved awards.

Successful

As was shown in Perth, 2019 is already proving to be a successful year for the Coalburn family.

In the past 12 months the Percussion Academy performed at the Scottish Youth Championships for the first time earning a Silver Award, several members of the Intermediate Band progressed through to the Silver Band and the Intermediate and Bronze Bands continued their on-going success and growth.

There was much to celebrate then (and more after the weekend) with awards being presented to Coalburn Percussion Academy members in thanking Gordon Millar for his continued hard work as Musical Director. The 'Most Improved Player of the Year' award went to percussionist Euan Coulter.

Intermediate awards

The Intermediate Band awards followed with Musical Director David Fehilly giving an overview of the band's year. The 'Most Improved Player' went to baritone player Susan Kelso. Trombone player Marcie Boyle was voted 'Players' Player of the Year'.

The Bronze Band awards saw the tubas claim the 'Best Section', whilst the 'Band Person of the Year' award went to Megan Cowan.

The 'Most Improved Player' was cornet player Lily Scott, whose commitment, improvement, behaviour at rehearsals and willingness to help other members of the band saw her also gain the 'Children's Choice Award'.

The 'Band Person of the Year' went jointly to David Fehilly and Daniel Beadle. The 'Player of the Year' award was presented to the trombone player, Robyn Anderson.
