Rob Westacott returns to West Riding on soprano

Following the departure of Connor Lennon to Black Dyke, the soprano cornet carousel has seen Brighouse & Rastrick announce the return of Rob Westacott to the role with immediate effect.

One of the most experienced principal cornet and soprano players in top class banding, the Welshman recently made a return to West Riding to help the band at the European Championships in Montreux on the front row cornet bench.

Looking forward

The move also marks the return to Brighouse after a two year break where he enjoyed considerable conducting success, with Rob telling 4BR: "I'm delighted to be returning on a permanent seat again and looking forward to the musical challenges on soprano.

The atmosphere in the band room is electric at the moment and I'm excited to be working under Prof David King and Dr. David Thornton once again."

Fantastic mix

In response Dr. David Thornton added: "The current B&R team is a fantastic mix of youth and experience. Rob rejoins the band and adds great quality to our cornet line-up.

With the high profile performances we have coming up it'll be fantastic to have a player that will slot in to our concepts of sound so easily. He's a great player and a great bandsman."
