The inspirational community brass band youth organisation Brass of the Saff certainly played its part in helping to make the recent launch of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the granting of city status to their home of Leicester a huge success.

Meet up

The band is based on the city's Saffron Lane Housing Estate and invited brass, percussion and woodwind players to meet up in the centre of the city for a massed bands performance.

They featured plenty of great music as well as providing a fantastic taster session for youngsters on the wide range of the award winning Warwick Music Group plastic p-instruments. The day was rounded off with the innovative 'Sounds in Space' exploration the central Methodist Church.

Great success

Julie Maxwell from Brass of the Saff told 4BR: "It was a great success. We had players coming together and talking about banding in general, youngsters playing way above anything we thought possible, artists mixing with musicians, artists loving the performance and adults having a go and signing up for banding!

It felt really positive all round and made for a great event."
