Filton's fond farewell to Davoren

Filton Concert Brass has bid a a fond farewell to their inspirational MD Tom Davoren as he prepares for a new musical chapter in his life in the USA.

Filton enjoyed a great deal of silverware success under the baton of Tom Davoren

After a highly successful seven year partnership, Filton Concert Brass has bid a fond farewell to Musical Director Tom Davoren as he prepares for a new musical chapter with his move to work in the USA.

His association with the Bristol-based ensemble began in 2012, with the then 'project band' looking to build on an ambitious set of future goals — ones that have been fully achieved.

Achievements

These included qualification for the Albert Hall National Final and Spring Festival — achieved via 17 top-six finishes in their 22 contests together, including memorable victories at the First Section National Championship of Great Britain in 2014, the Senior Trophy in 2016 and Senior Cup in 2017.

Tom also led the band through its first foreign tour to Palanga, performing at the Lithuanian National Championships gala concert in 2018, and its first CD recording 'Tales from the West Country'- released in 2018 to critical acclaim.

Fulfilling

However, when speaking to 4BR he said that his most fulfilling achievement was to work with a dedicated band of friends.

"I don't have the words to describe what everyone who has passed through this band means to me,"he said.

"It's been a constant in my life of true musical happiness. Thank you for the wonderful gift and know that I'll never experience anything quite like this again."

Best of luck

In response, Band Chairman James Bryant added: "Tom has been instrumental in driving Filton forward over the last seven years and has achieved things that seemed impossible all those years ago.

Our heartfelt thanks go to him for his invaluable contribution, and wish him the best of luck in his new endeavour!"

4BR was informed that news on the band's future musical director will be announced shortly.
