It's always good to be able to enjoy a brass band concert in the comfort of your own home — especially when it is one that will celebrate the musical life and work of one of the banding's movement's most popular figures.

Saturday afternoon

This afternoon (Saturday 20th July) at St. Mary the Virgin Church, Godmanchester (3.00pm), East London Brass under MD Jayne Murrill will provide that opportunity to sit back and relax — all in honour of David Read MBE.

In conversation with 4barsrest.com editor Iwan Fox, David talks about his musical life by picking some of his favourite brass band music — from Eric Ball's 'Sunset Rhapsody' to 'The Medallion' march with some wonderful segues and tours in between.

David will talk about his life and connection to the music — which also includes works by Gilbert Vinter and Vaughan Williams.

Speaking about the concerts, Musical Director Jayne Murrill said: "We're delighted with the response we've had from the brass band movement who are coming from far and wide to enjoy David's company, and hopefully the music as well!"

The free concert will see all donations going to friends of Hinchingbrooke Hospital — David's charity of choice.
