Brighouse make American link to enhance professorial musical partnership

The Yorkshire Champion makes a trans-Atlantic musical link as Lee Harrelson of Fountain City Brass becomes their new Visiting International Professor to work alongside David King.

Yorkshire Champion, Brighouse & Rastrick has acted swiftly following the recent departure of conductor David Thornton with news that Lee Harrelson will take up the role of Visiting International Professor to work alongside Musical Director Prof David King.

It will see the American travel to the UK from Kansas where he is the founder, Artistic Director and solo euphonium of the North American National Champion Fountain City Brass.

Musical link

It also reinforces the musical link between the two organisations, as Prof King led Fountain City to their most recent National success and was the inspirational lead on the inaugural National Youth Brass Band of America — a concept brought into being by the Besson artist and his wife Helen.

Lee Harrelson is a Professor of Music at Missouri Western State University and has gained a worldwide reputation for his innovative musical approach and outlook.

We are sure Lee will bring his renowned experience and musical talent to bear in what is sure to be an exciting opportunity to be integrally involved with the band during this important periodB&R Band

Working closely

4BR was informed that he will be working closely with Prof King and the West Riding band during his stay in the UK, supporting in their preparation for their forthcoming appearances at the British Open and National Final.

Brighouse & Rastrick Band Secretary, William Evans told 4BR: "This is an exciting time for the band and new professional musical developments are always welcomed.

April 3 • We have vacancies for a trombone player and a bass player. Cleethorpes Band rehearse near the seafront on Thursday and Sunday evenings. Placed 3rd in the NOE 4th section. Other players are always welcome as we may be able to switch positions around
