Wessex hits gold with new commission

A new work from composer Paul Saggers will help the Wessex Band Summer School celebrate its 50th anniversary

The Wessex Band Summer School has announced that composer Paul Saggers has written a new commission for its 50th Anniversary course entitle, 'Wessex Gold'.

Paul has been enjoying a great deal of critical as well as competitive acclaim in recent months, with his work, 'Ironbright' coming runner-up at the 7th European Composer Competition in Montreux in May.

Funds from that prize enabled him to write this commission work for the course — one that marks the 50th anniversary.

The first performance will take place at the end of course concert on Saturday afternoon 3rd August at The Exchange, Sturminster Newton.
