The death has been announced of Neville Wilkinson.

Chapeltown Silver Prize Band has announced the death of their respected Vice-President and former player Neville Wilkinson. He passed away on Thursday 11th July following a long illness.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Neville (Nev) had a long association with the band, along with several members of his family, including his twin brother Terry and son Paul, who is still a member.

Nev played most of the instruments in the band, was a model bandsman, a great compere and worked tirelessly as both a player and official on our behalf.

He had a big heart and a very dry sense of humour and was always the life and soul at celebrations."

Keen walker

On retiring from the Fire Service Neville spent a number of years working for Conservation Practice, maintaining paths and building dry-stone walls in the countryside. He was also a keen walker and was a member of the Grenoside Walking Club.

He was also well known within the local community through his involvement with a number of organisations including Chapeltown Scouts where he was a leader for a number of years, Worrall Male Voice Choir, the Royal British Legion Club and through his work as a fireman.
