Coalburn pride at youngster's NYBBS experience

The Coalburn Band organisation has spoken of the pride it has in its young stars that were part of this year's National Youth Brass Bands of Scotland summer course.

11 young musicians from the Coalburn Band family recently represented the organisation's Percussion Academy, Bronze, Intermediate, and Silver Band on the 2019 National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) summer course.

Stars

Anna Biggart, Robyn Anderson, Euan Court, Ross Abernethy and Jack Archibald, performed in the Senior Band, whilst Eilidh Court, Tilly Trickey, Hannah Archibald, Ben Coulter and Finlay Damer were members of the Reserve Band. Marcie Boyle, aged 13, performed as part of the Children's Band.

The Coalburn youngsters certainly made their mark, with principal positions being awarded to Marcie (bass trombone), Eilidh (horn) and Robyn (trombone). Robyn also went on to win the prestigious solo award competition, performing against no less than 20 rivals.

Band President, Alan Court told 4BR: "This was the largest group we've sent to NYBBS and is further evidence of the success of our youth development ethos.

We're exceptionally proud of everyone who took part in the course who all performed superbly and were a credit to themselves, their families and the band."

Loved it

The Coalburn youngsters were part of a group of 180 young brass and percussion players from across Scotland who came together at Strathallan School in Perth for the week long course, with cornet player Ben Coulter summing up the experience by saying: "This was my first time at NYBBS and I loved it. I made so many good friends and it's helped me so much musically."
