The former National Champion, Newbridge Celynen is looking to make a return to the contest stage for the first time in a decade thanks to the determination of a core of players and an inspirational MD.

Success

The south Wales band enjoyed great success in the first decade of the new millennium, claiming the Second Section National title in 2007 under the baton of Paul Holland, and eventually going on to be promoted to the Championship Section.

Under his baton they won a remarkable 19 contests until his departure in 2009, but subsequently found life difficult and have not competed since.

Now, under former player and radio presenter Geraint Barnes and indefatigable stalwart Colin Price, Newbridge Celynen Brass have slowly rebuilt and plan to return to local contesting in the near future.

Passion

Geraint told 4BR: "It's been a passion of mine to get this historic band back on its feet. The commitment and dedication of people such as Colin has been incredible. He has been the heart and soul of the band even in its darkest days.

Now the future looks bright, and we gained a huge boost of confidence is being awarded the BrassFestUK Training Section award in 2018. Since then we've come on leaps and bounds."

He added: "We have some spaces left to fill for players who share our passion and outlook to enjoy brass banding without pressure and for enjoyment and who want to test the contest waters once again."
