Hirst to take 50 year repeat bow

David Hirst will return to the stage of a concert that he first graced as a player half a century ago...

David Hirst will make a return to the stage as the conductor

The well known conductor and adjudicator David Hirst will be the guest conductor at this year's Brighouse & Rastrick 'Proms Evening' concert this weekend.

It will also mark 50 years since he made his playing debut at the event as a 15 year old cornet player with the then Yorkshire Imperial Metals Band alongside Fairey and the home town favourites.

Long time ago

Since that auspicious start he has appeared on numerous occasions as both a player and conductor at the long running concert series, as he told 4BR. "It seems a long time ago now, but I remember the concert well and the thrill of playing on stage with some legendary players.

It's a great privilege to be invited once again to be guest conductor and a lovely bit of serendipity that it's alongside Fairey Band again after half a century."
