Pioneering spirit celebrated at Yarnton

From a quartet of young female pioneers to 60 years of wonderful community music making for Yarnton Band

Tarnton
The female pioneers of Yarnton Band

The Yarnton Band will be celebrating its 60th anniversary this weekend with a special concert under the direction of MD Guy James.

Youngsters

The band was formed in 1959 when one aspiring young female player called Julie Tutte started playing under the tuition of her father and was soon joined Lesley Parson and sisters, Pam and Sue Carter. The quartet was to kick start the Yarnton Band.

Soon after, Julie's younger sister Glenda and a host of other youngsters wanted to be part of the fledgling band — the start of 60 years of brass band music making and tuition.

Concert celebration

Sixty years later the band has a full complement with close on 30 players and further learners coming through with conductor Guy James teaching children at the local William Fletcher School to play brass instruments.

The 60th Anniversary Concert will take place on Saturday 30th November at 4.00pm at the local Village Hall. Admission is free.
