World of Brass radio hits 700

John Maines will be presenting the 700th World of Brass Radio programme at the end of the month — so why not join him for the celebrations.

World of Brass
World of Brass radio reaches its 700th programme later this month.

John Maines is getting set to introduce the 700th World of Brass Radio programme later this month with a special broadcast on Friday 31st July.

Host

The programme first hit the airwaves back in December 2006 after an initial idea by Trevor Caffull, CEO of the Salvation Army Trading Company. John Maines has been the welcoming and hugely knowledable presenter ever since with the show able to have unrivalled access to a huge catalogue of releases from the world's finest bands and soloists.

Over the John has introduced the likes of David Childs, Jens Lindemann, Joe Alessi, Ian Bousfield, Philip Cobb, David Daws, Steven Mead, David Thornton and Philip McCann, as well as bands from Black Dyke to Yorkshire Building Society and a few male voices choirs and other types of musical ensembles along the way.

14 years

Talking about the 700 shows, John told 4BR: "I'm indebted to World of Brass for their continued help and support over the past 14 years to keep brass bands on the 'airwaves'.

It's been a wonderful opportunity to reach out to an audience across the musical world with some equally wonderful brass music making."
