Wychavon Festival of Brass cancelled

The popular Wychavon Festival of Brass bows to the inevitable and cancels its 2020 event.

Wychavon
The popular festival will now return in 2021

The organising committee of the Wychavon Festival of Brass has reluctantly agreed to cancel the 2020 Entertainment Competition in the light of the continuing difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hope

Speaking about the decision, Chair Dr. Val Trim stated: "Like everyone we all hoped the virus would have been under control by now, but, given the recent rise in cases and the increasing prevalence of local lockdowns, it seems that the overall situation continues to be unpredictable.

We are conscious as players ourselves, of the confusion and difficulties that bands face in returning to rehearsal and the perceived risks that such activities may pose. We also have additional concerns about the personnel that steward the contest.

Many of our volunteers are in 'at risk' groups and we feel that it would be wrong to compromise their health and safety by asking them to steward where there is the potential of hundreds of people attending from all parts of the UK."

2021 return

Despite this year's cancellation, Val stated that progress has already started to host a contest return in 2021.

She added: "All entrants have been offered a rollover for the 2021 contest on the 30th October, or, if preferred, a full refund which must be claimed by the end of October 2020.

The chronological order of entry will be preserved -something that is important for First Section bands up for a chance to compete in the Championship Section in the hope of a qualification for the Spring Festival Senior Trophy."

Bands are advised to go to the festival website for full details for the 2021 contest and for refunds if requiredWychavon Festival of Brass.
