The fifth episode of the 'Besson Fridays at Home' series is being aired tonight (Friday 4th September — 6.00pm GMT) with presenters Philip Harper, Roger Webster and Steven Mead having returned from a 'banding break' to enjoy their summer hols.

Porthouse and Griffiths

For this episode they are joined by the Tredegar Band duo of Musical Director Ian Porthouse and principal cornet Dewi Griffiths to talk about their musical lives and opinions,

Both made trips south to eventually, after many a banding detour, to end up in the south Wales valleys — Dewi from the north Wales village of Bethal and Ian from Cumbria.

They have plenty of great stories about how they got there — both playing under Prof David King at YBS for instance.

Ian also talks about his journey — from Leyland, Black Dyke YBS and Fairey amongst others beore he got the bug to conduct and eventually ended up heading to Tredegar and leading a band that has gained a well deserved reputation for taking on innovative projects — from ballet at Sadler's Wells to Britain's Got Talent.

All this and more
