Eikanger Bjorsvik's commitment to developing strong musical education links in and around Bergen and the Hordaland region has been strengthened by news that they have secured further financial support from philanthropist Trond Mohn.

Long term support

Following a recent meeting, support of NOK 1 million (approx. £83,000) will be given in 2022 and again in 2023. Trond Mohn has been a long-term supporter of the band and its musical objectives.

Mohn recently provided funding of approximately 60,000 Euros through a special Covid recovery fund to ensure that the European Youth Brass Band could be a part of the 2022 European Brass Band Festival in Birmingham.

Next generation

Speaking to 4BR an Eikanger spokesperson said: "This will not only provide the band with the essential foundation on which to continue to inspire the next generation of young brass band players through our education initiatives, but will also enable us to represent the nation at the 2023 European Championships in Malmo."

They added: "His generous support of numerous organisations is well known, and he was particularly delighted to hear of the success of the European Youth Band as well as his local school band, Smoras Skolemusikk at the Youth Championships."
