National Youth Championship judges announced

Tom Hutchinson, Andrea Price, Jack Capstaff and Leigh Baker will be the judges to impress at the 2023 National Youth Championships of Great Britain.

Youth
The Championships will take place at Stockport Grammer School next March

Brass Bands England has announced the panel of adjudicators for the 2023 National Youth Brass Bands Championships.

The event takes place at Stockport Grammar School on 25th March and sees a quartet of well known brass band musicians take on the roles in Tom Hutchinson, Andrea Price, Leigh Baker and Jack Capstaff.

Proactive applications

It follows BBE's decision to encourage proactive applications to judge at the event, with Alex Parker, BBE Youth Champs Project lead, telling 4BR that they were delighted by the success.

"We are really pleased with the new application process, which widened the pool of people we were able to consider as adjudicators.

We assessed candidates based on their track record, experience in musical assessment and written applications as well as their CV against the event roles person specification. We had to make difficult choices to find the best combination to provide a wide range of skills and experience."

He added: "We fully expect to use this process again in the future to continue to ensure that opportunities are widely accessible and to attract the best possible candidates."

Panel

For 2023 the panel will there see Tom Hutchinson, principal cornet of Cory Band, joined by the respected conductor, percussionist and educator Andrea Price, the experienced conductor and arranger Leigh Baker and innovative conductor and composer, Jack Capstaff.

Entry is currently open for the Youth Champ's three sections: the Besson Prodige Showcase Section, the Performance Section, and the ABRSM Championship Section.

We fully expect to use this process again in the future to continue to ensure that opportunities are widely accessible and to attract the best possible candidatesBBE
