New musical leadership at City of Hull

Dean Jones will take over as Musical Director of City of Hull Band as Stig Maersk returns to Denmark.

Stig
Stig Maersk has enjoyed a fine tenure at City of Hull Band

The City of Hull Band has announced a new change of musical direction.

It follows the news that MD Stig Maersk (above) is to return to Denmark at the end of the year to take up a post as Musical Director of Slesvigske Musikkorps.

Thanks

Speaking to 4BR, Band Chair Tony Newiss said: "We were sad to learn that Stig was to return to Denmark but we wish him and his young family all the very best for the future.

We also thank him for his inspirational work with us especially through what has probably been the most challenging period in the band's history due to Covid-19. We now forward to finishing on a high with a round of cracking Christmas Concerts."

New appointment

Tony revealed that the band has now appointed Dean Jones as their new MD from January 2023.

"Dean has been working with us on a regular basis over the past couple of years and the band have greatly enjoyed the experience. We look forward to what we hope will be a long and successful relationship."

Huge potential

In response, Dean said: "After taking a short break from conducting this really is the right opportunity for me.

They are a great band with huge potential, and I have already enjoyed our association together. I'm really looking forward to 2023."
