The experienced Mark Glover takes on the solo euphonium role at Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

  Mark Glover has been appointed as the new solo euphonium at Grimethorpe

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the arrival of their new solo euphonium player, Mark Glover.

The experienced performer joins after enjoying spells with a numerous top-flight bands, including most recently, WFEL Fairey. He is the assistant conductor of the Staffordshire Band and works for the Entrust Staffordshire Music Service.

Mark and his family returned to the UK in 2021 after working in Singapore and for a decade in Dubai.

Worldwide soloist

He was the Principal Study Lecturer of Euphonium at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and euphonium tutor for the Singapore Armed Forces Band. He also worked to help promote brass playing in the region and was a founding member of The Lion City Brass Band.

As a soloist Mark has performed around the world, including Brazil, USA, Brunei, Jakarta, UAE and India. His solo CD 'Hustle' was one of the nominees for the 2021 4Barsrest 'Solo CD of the Year'.

Speaking about his appointment he said: "I'm really looking forward to my future with the band."

In response, Grimethorpe MD Steve Phillips added: "Mark is the first signing since I took over and I couldn't have wished for a better one. His dedication, skill and artistry all fit with what we are trying to achieve at Grimethorpe."
