Death
The death has been announced of Ann Thorpe

The Yorkshire Imperial Band has announced the death of Ann Thorpe, one of their most dedicated supporters and administrators. She passed away unexpectedly on Friday June 9th.

Well known, immensely popular and respected Ann was an integral part of the identity of 'Imps' over the past two decades — an indefatigable contest secretary and merchandise officer as well as a wonderful figure of support at contests and concerts (usually with a book in hand).

Remarkable

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Ann was a remarkable figure who gave such dedicated service to the band. So many people will have enjoyed her company with us over the years and she was like a mother to so many of our younger players. Nothing was too much trouble."

They added: "She recently gave lifts to one of our younger players, signing the tunes from the music played at rehearsals on the way home. Everything was a wonderful adventure.

Huge loss

As one of our players said on hearing the news — "It is a huge loss to the band. Ann was an Imps legend and she never played a note."Our thoughts are with the family, all of whom she also loved spending time with."

4BR was informed that funeral details will be announced in due course.
