Sara Stokes has become the new principal cornet at Olney Brass.

Olney Brass
The band has welcomed its new principal cornet

Olney Brass has appointed Sara Stokes as their new principal cornet.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Sara was a natural choice with her musicality, wealth of experience and enthusiasm. She joined the band in 1992 and has been a wonderful player and an integral part of the organisation ever since."

Sara studied the trumpet at Huddersfield University, playing cornet in the university brass band under Phillip McCann.

Inspire

Since 2007 she has also enjoyed playing with the all-female charity band Boobs & Brass, and told 4BR: "I'm delighted to take on the principal cornet role.

The band is now in the best position it ever has been led by Philip Devine, and I hope to use all my experience to add to that and inspire the next generation of young brass players from our beginners and open bands."

Massive boost

In response the MD Philip Devine added: "Sara's appointment is a massive boost for Olney Brass and sets the whole dynamic for the band.

As well as being a fabulous player Sara's professionalism, positivity and passion are key ingredients as we go from strength to strength in these exciting times."
