MBE accolade for Calvert

71 years of dedicated service to his band and community sees David Calvert honoured with the MBE.

  David Calvert MBE

David Calvert, the veteran cornet player and proud President of Langholm Town Band in Scotland has been awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours by King Charles III.

Service

The richly deserved award recognised his remarkable 71 years of voluntary service to the band and wider community.

Davis has been a dedicated and committed supporter of Langholm Town Band for most of his life, having joined their ranks at the age of 12.

His first public engagement was as part of the celebrations of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Amazingly he has also played for astronaut Neil Armstrong, when the first man on the moon visited Scotland to become a Freeman of the Burgh of Langholm.

Selfless

He was also the major driving force behind the creation of a junior band to encourage youngsters to learn to play brass instruments and has provided selfless service to an organisation that has led the congratulations on his accolade.

He was also featured on a recent news programme about the award:
