SBBA offers support to Foodbank initiative

The Scottish Brass Band Association is hoping that bands across the nation will help support local foodbanks in their communities again this year.

Following the success of last year's campaign, the Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has launched a second coordinated national foodbank collection appeal.

Band members and supporters throughout Scotland are being encouraged to collect items for donation to their local foodbanks by the end of the February.

Raise awareness

Last year's initiative was proposed by Coalburn Silver Band MD, Gareth Bowman, who is also SBBA's Project Officer, with it taking off with numerous bands.

Gareth told 4BR: "It was great to see bands across Scotland help their local communities, raise awareness and support the work of foodbanks. It would be amazing for more bands to get on board this year."

Get involved

1. Launch a collection campaign within your band organisation
2. Collect items throughout the month of February
3. Deliver your band's collection to your local foodbank
4. Share pictures and information about your collection on your social media platforms to raise awareness and demonstrate support for local communities across Scotland, using the hashtags
#SBBAeducates and #SBBAcares

You can also share pictures and information of your band's efforts with SBBA PR officer Nigel Martin by email at sbbapr@gmail.com

What can you donate?

Monetary contributions
Dried or canned food items
Cooking oil
UHT milk
Diluting juice
Personal or household hygiene items

You can check your local foodbank's social media accounts for specific information regarding the items they are most in need of and it would be fantastic to see widespread involvement in this initiative to support local communities.
