Grimethorpe Colliery Band's principal cornet, Jamie Smith has been appointed Lead Conductor of Grimethorpe North of England Youth Band.
He will now lead the monthly ensemble of young brass players, all performing at Grade 6 level and above, and joins forces with longstanding Education Lead Jim Fletcher, who will continue to be involved in conducting and mentoring within the youth programme.

Speaking about the appointment he said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be taking on this new role.
This is a band full of talent and potential, and I'm excited to build on the amazing work already done, creating new opportunities and experiences for these young musicians."

The Grimethorpe North of England Youth Band has already established itself as a dynamic force and has featured at events such as the RNCM International Festival of Brass as well as hosting high-profile workshops.
