The Brass Band Association of New Zealand has announced the winner of the 2025 SOUNZ Brass Composition Prize.
The event was adjudicated by Dunedin-based composer, conductor and Emeritus Professor of Music Peter Adams who stated that the 29 entries had shown, "craftsmanship, idiomatic writing for brass and excellent notation and score presentation" it meeting the 'slow melody' brief.
Winner
The winner was David Woodcock's 'Summer Evening', with the composer stating that he was "delighted"to have won what was "an important resource for new brass music in New Zealand."
The other finalists were YuYang Ding, with their composition, 'Orchid in the Rain' and 'Field Notes in Autumn' by Keith Moss.
