Details have been announced of the NYBBGB Childrens' Band Summer Concert, which will take place at The Great Hall of Oundle School in Oundle (PE8 4GH) on Friday 1st August (2.00pm).
Thornton and Barton
The band is to be led this year by Dr David Thornton and will feature former NYBBGB principal cornet Lewis Barton as Guest Soloist.
Lewis Barton is an undergraduate at the RNCM in Manchester and principal cornet of the Leyland Band. He has also held principal trumpet positions in both the Halle Youth Orchestra and Opera North Youth Orchestra and is a former two-time winner of the prestigious NYBBGB Harry Mortimer Solo Competition.
Concert theme and premieres
The theme for the event is 'The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams', and will take the form of a celebration of song and traditional folk music.
The programme will also include two world premieres: 'The Beauty of Their Dreams' by the critically acclaimed composer Andrea Price, and 'Marche Triumphale' written by Easher Austin who at the age of just 14 made a huge impact with his submission to the NYBBGB Young Composers' Competition 2024/25.

Other works to be performed include 'Pater Noster' by Rebecca Lundberg and 'Vitae Lux' by Frode Alnaes arr. Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen, both of which will be led by Lewis Barton.
