The death has been announced of Derek Rawlinson, the former Chairperson of Brighouse & Rastrick Band.

Part of the administrative set-up of the West Riding organisation for over three decades, he was an integral part in its running as Chairperson from 1991 to 2007. After stepping down from the role he continued to serve the band as an archivist and, in later years, as an Honorary Vice President.

Genuine gentleman

The band stated: "Derek was the kind of person every band would dream of having in its corner; a tireless worker, a true stalwart, and above all, a genuine gentleman. His warmth, humour, and unwavering belief in the Brighouse & Rastrick Band meant that he was not just a figure of leadership, but a friend to us all.

Even after officially retiring from his duties in 2017, Derek remained a constant presence and a source of wisdom and encouragement. We were delighted to celebrate his 90th birthday with him this September, a milestone that now feels even more precious."
