New Ellers arrangement helps raise funds for Cancer Research

A wonderful musical idea has turned into an even better musical fund raiser.

Prelude on Ellers
The work helps raise funds for Cancer Research UK

A new arrangement of the famous hymn tune 'Ellers' is helping raise much needed funds for Cancer Research UK.

It has come following an initial idea in 2023 by Sidmouth Town Band players Greg and Claire Morgan, who commissioned composer Matt Kingston to produce an arrangement of the hymn tune to celebrate Claire's ten years free from cancer. It is also a tribute to the countless NHS staff who aid and support sufferers.

Prelude on Ellers

'Prelude on Ellers' has become a popular feature on Sidmouth programmes — to the point that a number of other bands contacted them to find out if they could also perform the music.

Greg and Claire were happy to oblige, and the only request is that bands that buy the parts and score do so in exchange for a donation of £50 which goes directly to the Cancer Research UK.

Wonderful success

The couple told 4BR: "It's been a wonderful success, and we have now raised over £500 for Cancer Research. We are especially delighted that British Open Champion Brighouse & Rastrick now have the piece, and we are looking forward to hearing them performing it very soon.
