Regent Brass continues to enhance its reputation for seeking exciting avenues of brass band exploration with the launch of a new initiative this weekend entitled, 'Brass Fluxus'.

Developed in collaboration with artist Phoenix Fry as part of Brass Bands England's (BBE) award-winning Elevate programme which sees artists and brass bands work together, it will feature the band in performance inspired by avant-garde art.

Compelling mix

The Fluxus art inspired book are a compelling mix of works produced by established artists as well as those created by Regent Brass themselves.

Emerging in the 1960s, Fluxus was an experimental approach to art that emphasised blending different artistic media to break down traditional boundaries between art and everyday life.

Cage and Duchamp

Described as, "a fusion of Spike Jones, gags, games, Vaudeville, Cage and Duchamp", it brought a playful, open-minded approach, creating a wide range of unconventional works, often using ordinary objects and actions to challenge traditional notions and engage audiences in interactive experiences.

Key artists included George Maciunas, Yoko Ono, Robert Morris, Carolee Schneeman and Alison Knowles amongst others.

Free event

The free event takes place on Saturday 10th January at Jackson Lane Arts Centre, 269, Archway Road, London (N6 5SS) — starting at 7.00pm.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The book features a compelling mix of works. It offers a fresh and playful take on performance art through the lens of traditional brass music.

In keeping with the Fluxus ethos the event is truly informal — you can arrive and leave at any time, watch specific performances and network with fellow banders. Just come and enjoy!"

Book a ticket

The event will begin at 7.00pm. Due to the limited capacity of the venue, attendees are encouraged to register for the event in advance.
