Marsden support from banding community

Musical and financial support has been forthcoming from the banding movement to help Marsden Silver Band recover from flood disaster.

Marsden Band
The band is facing a long period of recovery

The banding community is offering musical as well as financial support to Marsden Silver Band following the news of the disastrous flooding of their bandroom.

With a long haul ahead as insurance claims are made, the Yorkshire band has had to try and secure alternative rehearsal arrangements, music and even uniforms as they look to compete at the Regional Championships in March.

Fund raising

To help in their immediate fund-raising efforts, they have launched the 'Diadem Challenge', where fellow bands or individuals can play the band's 'signature tune' — the hymn 'Diadem (number 18 in the famous Red Hymn books) as a show of support, as well as make a donation to the cause.

The band stated on its Just Giving Fund raising page: "We are shattered by this sad incident, but we are determined to carry on. Logistically, we face a long road ahead with insurance claims, drying out the building, eventual repairs and replacement of equipment. The band need to keep rehearsing as we prepare for the Yorkshire Area Championships in early March, but we cannot do it alone."

Target

The initial target is to help raise £10,000, with well over half that amount already given by over 150 different people.

Over a dozen bands have taken part now in the 'Diadem' challenge, gaining extensive social media coverage.
