Kapitol issues Third Section Regional test-piece errata

Competing bands and adjudicators will all have access to a comprehensive errata for the forthcoming Third Section Area test-piece.

Regionals
Regional Secretaries will forward the errata to competing bands

Kapitol Promotions has announced that is has published their official errata for the Third Section Regional Championships test-piece, 'Three Haworth Impressions' by Gordon Langford.

Originally chosen by the Kapitol Promotions Music Panel as part of what they said was their wider focus to bring older music "back to life", it was felt to be an ideal test for the competitors, despite the original short score being unsuitable for use.

4BR has been informed that the Kapitol Panel chose to liaise directly with the work's publisher to ensure a suitable new score was created before the official Regionals 2026 set-test announcement in September last year.

Concerns

They stated: "The Panel chose this work in good faith and expected the new score to be accurately prepared to a professional standard. However, this has sadly not been the case, with several bands and individuals contacting their Regional Secretaries and Kapitol directly with concerns over the accuracy of this new score."

4BR was informed that Panel Member, Andrea Price was recently contacted by Helen Varley (former solo horn player with Grimethorpe Colliery Band and a member of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators) who has created a comprehensive errata. Helen will be conducting at the Championships.

Available document

The Panel added: "Helen has now made this document available to be published, and we would like to fully credit and thank her for this incredibly detailed work which will provide full clarity for all competing bands over the next few weeks."

4BR was informed that the document has been shared with the Regional Secretaries, who will forward the errata to competing bands and competition adjudicators as soon as possible.
