There will be plenty of new banding experiences to enjoy for three young members of 1st Old Boys Band this year.
Percussion
19-year-old percussionist, Aisling Ardiff has been selected to represent Northern Ireland as part of the 2026 European Youth Brass Band in Linz in April.
Aisling has been a former Principal Clarinet of the Ulster Youth Orchestra and is now looking forward to adding to her experience with a busy schedule of performances as part of the European Championship Festival.
Tuba
Meanwhile, Bb tuba player Harry Lloyd Jnr, aged 15, was recently appointed as Principal Bb tuba for the inaugural National Youth Brass Band of Northern Ireland course conducted by Les Neish.
Harry also hopes to follow in his sister Tori's footsteps, by also becoming a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Trumpet
The trio is completed by 16-year-old cornet player Nina Lyness. Nina is also an accomplished trumpeter and is a former member of National Youth Orchestra of Ireland. She has successfully secured her place on the Ulster Youth Orchestra summer residential course.
4BR was informed that a total of 5 members of the 1OB Youth Band attended the inaugural National Youth Brass Band of Northern Ireland (NYBBNI) opening day at Queen's University Belfast recently — all thoroughly enjoying the experience under the baton of Les Neish and team of tutors.
