Sterling Musical Instruments has welcomed the baritone section of Tredegar Band to its roster of artists.

Carole Ednie and Tabitha Rodway took delivery of their new Sterling Virtuoso baritones earlier this year, performing on them in concerts, recordings and at the recent British Open Championship in Birmingham.

Impressed

Solo baritone Carole said: "I've thoroughly enjoyed playing the Sterling over the past five months. From the outset, I've been impressed by how free-blowing and responsive the instrument feels, allowing me to move effortlessly between lyrical passages and more technically demanding repertoire.

It produces a rich, warm and versatile tone, with plenty of depth and clarity across the register."

Her colleague Tabitha agreed: "We've really enjoyed playing as a section and working with Sterling to explore the capabilities of the instruments on the testing music we have to play with the band week in week out."

150th anniversary

Tredegar celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, with a special concert to be held in November where the current duo hope to meet up with many former Tredegar baritone stars. Ahead of that the band will be giving their premiere performance of Richard Blackford's 'Orbital' at Ardingly College in October.

The duo are also looking forward to a busy 2027 which will see further recordings and major projects.

Delighted

Speaking about the connection set up as part of an existing long term link between the band and Sterling, Tredegar Chairperson Rob Westacott added: "We've been delighted to receive two new Sterling Virtuoso baritones, which made their debut at the British Open.

These fabulous instruments blended exceptionally well, and offered great flexibility and sound across the range. We look forward to continuing this partnership as the band looks forward to a significant year with some very exciting projects in the pipeline."
