Ever since the first performance in Dublin in April 1742, Handel's 'Messiah' has become the iconic Christian oratorio.
With lyrics taken from the Bible by Charles Jennens to accompany the timeless music by Handel, it remains a perennial concert favourite.
Popular choruses
'For unto us a child is born' comes roughly halfway through Part One and is one of its most popular choruses as it described the prophecy (found in Isaiah Chapter 9) of the birth of a Messiah and which is brought to life in this excellent setting for brass band by Kevin Norbury.
