Cash boost for bands

Tameside Council has awarded three local bands some much needed cash.

Tameside Council have awarded three local bands with a cash boost this week.

St John’s Droylsden Brass Band, Carrbrook and Hollingworth and Longdendale Brass Band each received a cheque for £5,000 to encourage their development.

Encourage progression

The Council’s rolling grant scheme, now in its sixth year, aims to award grants to the Borough’s locally established brass bands, who in return commit to providing opportunities for Tameside residents to enjoy brass band music whilst continuing to encourage the progression of new young players.

Three lucky bands

Executive Leader of Tameside Council, Councillor Roy Oldham told 4BR: "I am extremely proud of the brass band tradition that exists within Tameside and am delighted."
