On Sunday January 20th, Smithills School Senior Brass Band and MD Chris Wormald spent the entire day in school, literlly from dawn till dusk, as they successfully completing their annual, ten hour, non-stop sponsored rehearsal.

Musical marathon

Starting at 8.45am, and for the eighteenth year in a row, Chris and the Senior Brass Band completed their musical marathon to raise much needed funds for new instruments, new music and the band’s next tour abroad which will be later this year. The day usually raises upwards of £2,000 for the band’s funds.

London return

Led by Principal Cornet player Joanna Hurst, Smithills have only just returned from London where they performed at the Royal Garden Hotel to over two hundred Government ministers and seventy education secretaries from all over the World in addition to many high profile guests such as Lord David Puttnam, former Head of Columbia Pictures in Hollywood.
