The Wingates Band has announced that composer Peter Meechan has been commissioned to compose a piece for Bass Trombone for a forthcoming CD recording.

Extremes

Both Pete and Adrian will be meeting shortly to discuss the form and style of the piece but it is likely to be 'Extreme', so Bass Trombonists, should be excited in anticipation of the new work Andrew Berryman

Announcing the exciting development, Wingates' MD, Andrew Berryman told 4BR 'The title of the CD will be 'Extremes' and will include some new, but tried and tested, music written especially for the band. One of the highlights will be a new piece, possibly a concerto, for Bass Trombone by Pete Meechan, with the soloist being Adrian 'Benny' Morris'.

Conversation leads to commission

The idea for the new piece came about after both parties were chatting at the recent RNCM Festival of Brass. Both Pete and Adrian will be meeting shortly to discuss the form and style of the piece but it is likely to be 'Extreme', so Bass Trombonists, should be excited in anticipation of the new work!

Adrian will be the only soloist on the CD as Wingates will be making a 'Wingates Soloists' CD later in the year.

Commenting on the new commission, Pete Meechan said 'I'm absolutely delighted and flattered to have been asked to compose a piece for Adrian. He is someone i've known for a while and is a talented musician and this is another exciting commission for me'.

Autumn release

It is anticipated that the CD will be released in the early autumn when Wingates appear at the Great Northern Brass Arts Festival in Manchester'.

Doyle's Nyman performance

In addition to the new CD, Andrew Berryman also confirmed that Black Dyke's John Doyle will be the soloist at Cadogan Hall on the 7th June where the band will participate in a Nyman Festival.

Black Dyke's illustrious flugel player will be giving the premiere performance of the newly arranged Flugel and piano piece by Michael Nyman. John will also be the soloist when the band record it on the next 'Nyman Brass' CD later in the year.
