The Cumbria Brass Band Association is arranging a concert in memory of Howard Rooms this Saturday.

The ‘Concert of Celebration’ is in recognition of Howard’s tireless energy in maintaining and developing the Brass Band Movement throughout Cumbria.

Outstanding achievment

Most of the banding community is well aware of Howard’s outstanding achievements with establishing the County Youth Band and the Annual Contest.

Ian Porthouse, fresh from his conducting success with Tredegar at the Welsh Regional Championships, has agreed to play at the concert, which will be performed by both Whitehaven Brass Band (Howard’s own band) and the Dearham Brass Band. Ian will perform a selection of cornet solos with each band.

Charity benefit

Howard’s son, Howard Junior has kindly agreed to attend the concert on behalf of the Room’s family. He is currently considering which charity should benefit from the proceeds raised.

The Association has high hopes for a capacity audience on Saturday 15th March in the Whitehaven Civic Halls. Ticket enquiries can be be made to Laurie Price on 07767 — 332043
